Two Techniques of Removing Hair- Waxing & Shaving

Nowadays teens also want to keep their skin smooth and hairless. But doing the first attempt they should know all about waxing or shaving, which option will be better for them. How do they minimize any redness and pain that comes along with doing either? We know when we do things incorrectly because we hardly want to get out of bed. But it would be nice to get it right off the bat, wouldn't it?

Waxing and shaving are the two different processes for obtaining the same results but still, each process has its own pros and cons. Removing hairs from the skin for the first time can seem daunting, but it’s not bad as you think.

Let’s understand both the process deeply:

Waxing is a hair removal technique that has been used for centuries. It is simply a semi-permanent hair removal method. The technique removes hair from the root, and it takes 3 to 8 weeks for the new hair to grow. Unlike other hair removal techniques such as threading; waxing can be done on almost any part of the body including arms, legs, back, eyebrow, abdomen, face, bikini area and feet. Waxing is considered as one of the most effective hair removal methods for any part of the body. It guarantees a complete removal, even underneath the surface of the skin.

  • Soft wax- This is among the most popular methods whereby hot wax is applied to the region you wish to wax. The wax is applied in a thick layer then allowed to cool down for it to harden for easy The wax is then peeled off to remove the hair. Soft wax is applied with a waxing spatula before being removed using a muslin strip. This wax is best suited for larger areas such as arms, legs, and armpit.
  • Hard wax- Taking more skill to use, hard wax is a little different. It is thicker and applied warm with a spatula. Once the wax hardens, it is removed without the use of a strip. When waxing the face, hard wax is generally used. Additionally, it is our professional opinion that, when it comes to sensitive skin such as the bikini area, hard wax is also the best option. It attaches itself only to the hair, not the skin, reducing discomfort and minimizing the possibility of irritation.

Advantage of waxing

Effectiveness- Waxing and shaving are both temporary hair removal methods, but waxing wins for longer-lasting effects. The effects of shaving may last only a single day or up to three days, depending on the hairs’ thickness and quickness of growth. Women often add shaving their legs to part of their daily shower routines. By contrast, the effects of waxing can last from three to nine weeks.

Quality of hair growth- Regularly waxing is resulted beneficial, as the quality of hair growth is very finer, thinner because hair pulled from the roots. The density of the hair also reduces, so you can expect your hair to get a lot finer the more you wax.

Comfort level- This is true it is paining, but Waxing usually requires you to either you can go to a parlour or you can call a professional to your house. Either way, waxing isn’t exactly the most convenient method, what with all the hot wax, waxing strips, powders, and lotions

Hygienic level- From the hygiene point of view waxing is more hygienic as compared to shaving. Because of shaving if you use infected blade than chances of infection increases, but if you choose good salon or parlour for waxing, they do better care about hygiene by using fresh strips, spatulas & wipes. Hygiene then becomes a major factor when you’re getting waxed and you need to make sure you do it at a parlour where experienced professionals use quality wax and products. Often, it is even advisable that the waxing ladies wear gloves, particularly when waxing private parts.

Product- waxing comes in many varieties; ingredients like chocolate and fruits to the wax to ensure that your skin stays healthy. These are natural and won’t irritate your skin.” Eventually reduces hair growth.

Disadvantages of Waxing

Pain- Of course waxing is painful and agonising, especially when you’re new to it. Because the strip is pulled in the opposite direction of the hair growth, the pain is amplified and waxing can often leave you with red spots on your skin once the session is over. Waxing, however, can be uncomfortable, especially in the private zone. This, of course, depends on your personal threshold, the thickness of the hair, and the person who is performing the service. Waxing can also lead to inflammation after its done and ingrown hairs.

Time- Waxing takes a lot more time since you have to melt the wax, apply it, wait for it to harden and then pull it off your legs. You might need to factor in extra time if you spill the waxing kit and have a big mess to clean -- or your spa appointment is running behind schedule.

Expensive- Once you start waxing, it will be another expense added to the budget. Waxing is a pretty costly affair over a period of time. Today’s parlour rates are pretty steep and depend on the body parts you want to be waxed. And if you think parlours are expensive, calling a lady home to do the job for you is no cheaper. Because they’re coming to your house, they often command higher rates than parlours.

Shaving is most popular by far and probably the way most people think of hair removal. Shaving is a temporary method that involves both electric and manual razors and the use of either a shaving gel or soap. Most parents and health care providers agree that it is important to make sure your daughter is old enough to safely use a razor before allowing them to start. When you shave, it only removes the hair at the very surface so it can grow back relatively quickly depending on the person. On average, if you want to keep your legs smooth, you may need to shave every 2-3 days.

  • Manual shaving- Shaving with a manual razor is one of the most popular hairs removal methods; it’s easy, affordable and fast. Soak your skin in warm water via a shower or bath for a few minutes, apply shaving gel and use a sharp razor blade in light, steady strokes. After you finish shaving, rinse, pat your skin dry and apply a moisturizer. Wet shaving with a sharp razor can be used anywhere, however, it’s particularly great for legs, armpits, arms and bikini line.
  • Electric shaving- An electric razor has a moving blade under a fine screen that glides across your skin, trapping and cutting away the hair from the surface. What makes an electric razor different than a manual razor is that you typically shave dry skin rather than wet skin. Dry shaving with an electric device can be used anywhere. It works well for legs, arms, underarms and bikini line. Electric razors usually do not cut the hair as closely as manual razors do; so if you want to maintain smooth skin, you may need to shave more often — in general, every one to two days.

 Advantages of Shaving

Easy to use- You can shave skin whenever, wherever you want. It is a quick process and is highly useful in times of urgency. You can always opt for shaving before any special date, or urgent meeting, or any other special occasion where you want to go without your unwanted hair. The same ready steady go feature cannot be obtained with waxing. It takes time and cannot be done quickly.

No pain- It is painless. You will only gain clear, smooth skin and get rid of your hair in this process. If you exercise precaution and use a moisturising agent like a shaving gel/cream before you begin the shave, you can rest assured that shaving will be a breeze.

Inexpensive- Shaving beats waxing when it comes to cost. Shaving creams and gels can cost under $3, with disposable razors costing about the same, though fancier models will cost more. Home leg waxing kits start around $14, as of the time of publication -- but only for a single waxing application; the razor and cream give you many shaves.

Non-irritating- When we shave hair with a razor, it is generally not irritating unless the cream used is of fine quality and as per the skin requirements. The after effects of razor are non-irritating, which cannot be said about waxing. Some people might feel some kind of irritation after waxing as hairs are removed straight from the roots. This strain can sometimes cause skin irritation.

Disadvantages of Shaving

Regrowth- As mention earlier shaving only removes hair only from the surface of the skin. Therefore the growth rate of hair is rapidly fast around 1 week to 10 days. So you have to do shaving during a very short period.

Hair Regrowth Type- With shaving, many assume that hair grows back thicker, but the reason for this is that since the hair isn’t pulled from the root, the basic nature of the hair remains the same. Hence, it may seem that the hair has grown back thicker, but it is actually not the case.

Bikini line- risky to try to remove any more than your bikini line with a razor because removing every bit of hair means you are shaving an area that is super sensitive.

Hygienic– there is not a hazardous effect from shaving but if you not doing correctly then chances of infection increases or using used razor by another person is also very dangerous for your skin. You have to just take care of cuts during shaving. Proper skills required to do the shaving. If you maintain proper hygiene then it is not at all any harmful to you.

At the end, we just conclude that whatever technique or process you adopt just keeps in mind these important notes.

While doing shaving-

Moisturise your skin after you’ve used a razor.

Use a disposable razor. Even if you repeat it, don’t use it more than twice.

While doing waxing

Make sure that the salon uses disposable waxing strips.

Apply a cooling pad or ice on your skin after waxing. This will soothe it.
